In short: the archive sets no cookies, runs no analytics, advertising or tracking, has no working forms and loads nothing from other companies. The only personal data processed when you visit are the technical logs every web server keeps.
1. Who is responsible
The data controller is Marco Chiesi, a private individual living in Italy, who runs this archive as a personal, non-commercial project. Contact: privacy@chiesi.net.
2. What this policy covers
This policy covers archive.chiesi.net and every archived site under it (*.archive.chiesi.net):
static copies of personal websites from 1998 onwards. It replaces the privacy policies some of those
sites had at the time, which described services (contact forms, comments, statistics, cookie consent)
that no longer exist.
3. Data processed when you visit
Server logs
Like every web server, the archive's hosting records each request in technical logs: your IP address, date and time, the address requested, the response sent, the referring page and your browser's user agent.
- Purpose: delivering the pages, keeping the service working and secure, and detecting and stopping abuse (for example attacks or excessive automated traffic).
- Legal basis: legitimate interest in running and securing the website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Who processes them: the hosting provider, on my behalf (see section 6). I do not download them, combine them with other data or use them to identify or profile visitors; I would look at them only to fix a technical problem or investigate abuse.
- Retention: logs are kept only for the short period of the hosting provider's standard log rotation, then deleted automatically.
Providing these data is a technical requirement for receiving the pages: without them a browser cannot be sent a response.
Cookies and browser storage
No page sets cookies, first-party or third-party, and the archive uses no analytics, statistics, advertising, social-media or tracking tools. The counters, ads and share buttons the original sites had have been removed, and their scripts can no longer write cookies.
One archived site (2026-personal) remembers the light or dark display mode you choose, in your browser's local storage. It is stored only when you use the switch, never leaves your device, and is strictly necessary for the function you asked for, so no consent is required. You can remove it by clearing the site data in your browser.
Nothing loaded from other companies
Fonts, images and players the old sites loaded from third parties (such as Google Fonts) are served from the archive itself, so viewing a page does not send your IP address anywhere else. Videos are plain links: only if you follow one do you reach YouTube or VideoPress, under their own policies.
Forms
The contact forms, comment fields, guestbooks, newsletter sign-ups and search boxes that still appear on some archived pages are kept for the record but do not work: nothing typed into them is sent or stored.
4. If you write to me
If you email the address above, I process your address, name and whatever your message contains, only to read and answer it and to act on any request (for example a removal request under section 5). The legal basis is my legitimate interest in replying to messages sent to me (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) and, for requests about your rights, compliance with the GDPR (Article 6(1)(c)). I keep the correspondence only as long as needed to deal with it, and for a removal request as long as needed to show it was handled.
5. Personal data inside the archived pages
The archived sites are kept as they were published, and some pages contain other people's personal data from that time: names and messages in old guestbooks, authors of press reviews, names of people I exchanged with or linked to, contact details that may be out of date.
- Purpose: preserving my own past websites as a historical record.
- Legal basis: legitimate interest in that record (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), balanced
by keeping the impact low: the archive is excluded from search engines (every page carries
noindex), private email addresses have been removed or disguised from harvesters, and anything is changed or removed on request. - Objection and removal: if you find yourself in the archive and want something changed or removed, write to me: I will do it without asking for reasons, normally within a few days and in any case within one month.
Old email addresses printed on the archived pages may no longer be read. Use the address in section 1 instead.
6. Recipients and where the data are
The only recipient is the hosting provider, Hostinger International Ltd (an EU company), which processes the server logs on my behalf as data processor under its data processing terms. The archive's server is in the Netherlands, within the European Union; pages may also be delivered through the hosting provider's content delivery network. I do not sell, share or transfer personal data to anyone else.
7. Automated decisions
No automated decision-making or profiling takes place.
8. Links to other sites
The archived pages link to many other websites, a lot of which no longer exist. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which this one does not cover.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for access to the personal data about you, their correction or erasure, restriction of their processing and, where it applies, portability; and you can object at any time to processing based on legitimate interest, including the presence of your data in the archived pages. Write to the address in section 1: I will answer within one month. You can also lodge a complaint with the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, or with the authority of the EU country where you live or work.
10. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published here with a new date.
